Tuesday Pik – Week 4

Axtell Nebraska

Axtell is a small town about 200 miles southwest of Omaha Nebraska.

On the northern edge of Axtell is place called Bethphage Mission that was founded by a Lutheran pastor in 1913.

According to the Mission’s website, not to long after it was built, it became known as the “miracle of the prairie for its dedication to helping people with disabilities grow toward independence.”  The Lutheran pastor K. G. William Dahl founded the mission because in the early 1900’s people with intellectual disabilities suffered abuse and abandonment in large institutions.  This was his way of showing support and loving care.
