I will be back on February 1st.
Thank you, everyone, for sticking with me. My body, mind, soul and living space is is in the middle of some re-structuring. Destressing my mind, decluttering my home, getting my body back in a routine and getting my diabetes back in control. I will be back in full force on Feb 1, on both of my blogs, Wandering Iris and my new Getting Mobile and Healthy.
Keep smiling and blogging,
Do you prefer shopping or going to a park?

What is the highest score you’ve ever made in bowling? Actual or virtually played.
It;s been almost 30 years since I bowled. My highest score was a little over 200, don’t remember exactly, something like 215. My only time over 200.
Name the foreign countries you’ve been to.
I have been to: Germany, Ecuador, Canada, Panama, Colombia, Japan, Korea and the Philippines.
Describe your own outlook on life in seven words or less.
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?
Last week, next week, and every week, I am grateful to be alive.
Imagine my surprise when I looked at a comment and it was a nomination for the Liebster Award! I have no acceptance speech ready! What should I wear on the Red Carpet??
Thank you Arlene at Arl’s World for nominating me for the Liebster Award! I have been visiting Arlene’s blog for several weeks and think that it’s a wonderful blog. I discovered Arlene’s blog through Cee’s Photo challenges. I am glad to accept the Leibster Award. It’s a great way for us Newbies to introduce ourselves and a few of our favorite other Newbies to the blogging world. If you haven’t seen it, go check it out. http://arlsworld.wordpress.com/
Part of accepting this award is answering questions chosen for you by the person who nominated you.
Here are my questions from Arl’s World:
1. What do you want to accomplish by blogging?
What I hope to accomplish is to show people that the world is an interesting place if you step outside your comfort zone and explore. Go down that dead end road, my most memorable dead end was 14 miles long and had an amazing sandy beach at the end with Sand Dollars on the beach. See what’s behind that strip mall, we got snoopy early on Saturday morning and found a horse in a corral with a small red barn, inside the city limits, who woulda knew!
2. What household chore do you hate the most?
What do I hate the most? That’s easy. I hate washing dishes. And I am the luckiest woman in the world because my Prince in shining armor has the dishpan hands. Between hubby and the dishwasher I never have to do the dishes!
3. What is your favorite memory from growing up?
My favorite memory is our family Sunday drives. Mom would pack a picnic and we (Mom, Dad, 2 brothers and I) would pile into the car. I’m not sure if Dad had a place planned or if he just backed out of the driveway and picked a place off the top of his head, but we all had fun.
4. What’s your favorite TV show and why?
This one is hard to answer. It’s a toss up between Big Bang Theory, NCIS and Murder She Wrote.
5. What is your favorite thing about blogging and why?
I absolutely love to share the photos I have taken of the places we have traveled and things that I think are unique and/or interesting. Why? I guess I’m just a big ham and like showing them.
6. If you had to move to another country RIGHT NOW what country would you pick and why?
Hmm…… toss up time again. I actually have been trying to convince hubby to move to either Ecuador or the Philippines. Ecuador because I have fond memories. I lived there as a child. The mountains are magnificent, the lifestyle is laid back and the old world Spanish architecture is beautiful and romantic. The Philippines because the people are the friendliest on earth, the shopping is fantastic and it’s an awesome place for beachcombing!
7. Where do you see yourself in 5 years and what are you doing?
Almost retired and making plans for a move to one of the countries in #6.
8. What super power would you choose to have?
It’s not a super power to most but it is to me. I am horribly afraid of heights. Having no fear of heights would be a super power for me. I would love to be up high and be able to look at the tops of things, like looking down at a mountain river with boulders in it from a bridge.
9. What is your guilty pleasure?
Donuts…..3 or 4 times a year we (Hubby and I) give in, go to Ray’s Donuts and buy 2 or 3 donuts each…..on a Saturday or Sunday morning. We have coffee in our travel mugs and we drive around eating donuts and drinking coffee.
10. What famous person would you like to meet?
I would like to sit and chat over tea with Queen Victoria. She was a powerful woman that created changes to the world that are still with us today.
Now it’s my turn to nominate some of my favorite bloggers and blogs. I like them ALL for the same reason. Their blogs have diversity. Their stories/poems are well written and interesting. They have wonderful photos. (I am very attracted to blogs with pictures). Because of these things they hold my interest and keep me coming back. They are under no obligation to accept the award.

Congratulations to all the nominees and fellow bloggers, you all do a great job every day!
First I would like to say THANK YOU!! Thank you to all of the wonderful people who blog. You make the world more interesting.
Today is an anniversary day for me. It is the 4 week anniversary of my blog. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine how much fun it would be. And never in my wildest dreams could I ever have imagined how many people would look at my posts in such a short amount of time!
January 24th 2014 was day 1. Someone several years ago suggested that I blog because they liked my conversations of places that I had gone and things I had seen. I was busy and stressed and didn’t give it another thought. I saw this person’s face smiling at me when I was looking through my friends list on Facebook just before Christmas and debated about whether I should unfriend her or not, you see, she passed away 4 years ago, just after she told me to blog. She was a very dear friend and I didn’t want to let her go. That is when I remembered the blog thing. I thought about it for a few days. I Googled “what is blogging”. I read. I looked at a few blogs.
In January I twisted my back while reaching into the dishwasher. I could not walk without pain. This happens a couple times a year. I knew it would take a few days in the recliner with ice.
I called my 30 something son and asked him about blogging. He explained the technical part about what a blog site is. He’s a computer geek. Computer Science degree. Professional working coder since 2000. I don’t remember a quarter of what he said. But he did point me toward WordPress and I am ever so grateful.
On Jan 24 I Googled WordPress, went to their site, read a little, and accidently, yes accidently, started my blog. I was just messing around, clicking to see what would happen. Still not sure if this was something I wanted to commit to. Presto! I had a page! I was in amazement. I typed something, I posted. https://irisgreenwald.wordpress.com/2014/01/24/day-one-of-blogging/
I looked at it. I was afraid to log out because I didn’t think I would find my way back. I did a second post, it included a photo. Mind you, it was several hours later by now. https://irisgreenwald.wordpress.com/2014/01/24/traveling/
I got brave and logged out to see if I could if I could find it and log back in. I was surprised and please when I found my blog and got back in. Well, I must admit that I did need to Google “How to log in to my WordPress blog”. Thank goodness there were easy to follow instructions.
At the moment I logged in and saw my blog, I made the decision that Yes, I am a blogger.
I made the decision to find a photo of something interesting that my husband and I had found while out for one of our weekend morning drives. I made my first official post. https://irisgreenwald.wordpress.com/2014/01/24/strange-vehicle/
I was hooked! I had no big expectations. I thought I would be lucky if 2 or 3 people came to my blog before the end of the month. When my husband got home from work, I twisted his arm and made him find my blog online. I asked him to make a comment because I wanted to see what it would look like. I….Er….accidently “Liked” my own post. (Inset embarrassed smiley here). I was Amazed when, by the end of the day, I had 11 visitors on day one!
On day two I made 3 posts. This is also the day I found out about Challenges. One of my posts was Weekly Photo Challenge: Juxtaposition. People looked! People “Liked”! So now I was hooked on Photo Challenges. What can I say, I like attention (inset smiley face here). I guess I’m just a ham at heart. Plus I liked the idea of showing off my photos.
I spent many hours reading other blogs. Mesmerized by their stories and photos. Wondering how I could make my blog look as professional and interesting as theirs. I made more posts. I read other bloggers posts. I clicked Like. I clicked Follow on the ones I wanted to come back to.
I think it was day 3 that I got my first follower. WOW! Thank you S. K. Nicholls with your blog http://redclayandroses1.wordpress.com Very nice blog. If you haven’t been there you don’t know what you are missing. Go now. And also Cee’s Photography who has a great blog and provides so many photo challenges. Thank you Cee, I love your photos and your challenges. http://ceenphotography.com/
Every day I had more followers! I had not expected to get any followers until my blog was several weeks old, or maybe months. I tried on Themes like a girl tries on clothes. I read more tutorials. I added Widgets. I tinkered. I followed. I posted. I read. I tinkered some more.
So here it is 4 weeks later. My heart does a little “Happy Dance” every time I get a Like, a View, a Comment and it leaps when I get a Follower. So that’s my story. Happy Anniversary to me.
Thank you to everyone that has looked at my blog.
Thank you to all of you who have taken the time leave a comment.
Thank you for clicking the Like button, I feel so much joy and excitement to think that another human being finds that something I have posted is worthy of being viewed.
And a huge THANK YOU to everyone that has chosen to follow my blog. I am elated every time I get a new follower!
