Travel Find Thursday – Gettysburg National Military Park

This park is a memorial to America’s Civil War (1861 – 1865) and The Battle of Gettysburg, July 1-3, 1863 and is the largest battle fought in North America. The Military Park is just outside of the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The town has many shops and restaurants.

The auto tour of the Military Park takes you to all of the key areas during the battles of Gettysburg.  We had no idea the battlefield was so large. The National Park Service is doing a great job restoring the area to its look during the Civil War, so a large part of the park looks like pasture land. There are over 400 cannons all through the park and over 1330 monuments and markers. Happily for us it was easy to drive around the main places of the battle.
