This beautiful park is located in Dade County, southwest Missouri, near the towns of Greenfield and Everton.
It is for camping, picnicing and horseback riding. But the gem of this park is the ongoing project by the Dade County Historical Society volunteers to re-create an 1800’s village.
The project began with the rebuilding of a grain mill that was moved when a dam was built and the original place that the mill was standing would soon be Stockton Lake.
After the Hulston Mill was moved to the park and rebuilt, two log cabins with their surrounding outbuildngs were relocated to the park and are still in some stage of rebuilding.
The insides are being filled with period pieces.
And no village would be complete without the outbuildings, a couple of artifacts (one is a horse trough and I don’t know what the other is) and a creek behind the mill.
The newest project is the building of a new cabin using the 1800’s building methods, starting with making hand hewn logs and a rock fireplace.
